Welcome to the website of the Windsor Squadron of the Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons (CPS-ECP).

Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons (CPS-ECP) started here. In 1938, 3 members of the Windsor Yacht Club travelled to Detroit to attend the Elementary Piloting (now Boating) class at the Detroit Squadron of the United States Power Squadron (USPS). After completing the course they decided that Canada needed an organization offering similar safe boating courses and the Windsor Squadron was born.

It started here and now there are 18,000 members of ECP-ECP across Canada. Our courses start with Boating 1, the Pleasure Craft Operator’s Card, and progress through ROC(M) VHF radio, Electronic Navigation, Weather awareness and onto Navigator – Advanced Offshore Navigation. Windsor Squadron instructs over 150 students a year.

We offer Recreational Vessel Courtesy Checks (RVCC) to boaters across Windsor/Essex. The check assesses the equipment onboard to be sure the vessel and captain have the necessary equipment and proof of competency to be out on the water. Boating without the proper equipment can be costly if found not in compliance when inspected by law enforcement. RVCC assures boaters that they are in compliance or indicates deficiencies that need to be addressed.

The Squadron has many seminars during the year. Subjects such as ‘Border Crossing’, ‘Great Lakes Weather’ and ‘Boat & Boater – preparation for the start of the season’ are topics we have covered. Presentations by members on cruising are popular. Areas from the Rideau and Trent Severn canal systems, the North Channel and trips further afield to New York City and Cuba have been given.

We also have social events throughout the year with the Christmas party and the Volunteer Recognition BBQ being the two highlights.

We have activities for every boater whether it be sail, power or human powered. We offer a wide range of services but more importantly, we offer a community of Safe Boaters. The knowledge of the membership is astonishing and their willingness to share that knowledge is outstanding.

Windsor Power and Sail Squadron offers much but we need you too. Please consider participating in our events; perhaps start by volunteering at an RVCC event.

Your support of the Squadron is vital to maintain the
Mission of the Squadron: To Promote and Enable Safe Boating!
